DJ Detritus has been performed at “The Art of Listening”, Brighton Fringe Festival 2007, “Testing Grounds”, Permanent Gallery, Brighton 2008, “Sonic Art”, Brighton Fringe Festival, Blank Studios, Brighton 2009 and Wattsfest, Devon 2010. DJ Detritus rescues abandoned, malfunctioning electrical items and with the use of electromagnetic pick up microphones, resuscitates these discarded objects. Old computers and laptops, fax machines, printers and mobile phones, obsolete items swept aside in the wake of relentless technological advancement. The microphones convert the electrical activity present within the machines into audible tones, buzzes, hisses and clicks, each machine it’s own unique sound forming a palette of sounds which are mixed live.
After seeing DJ Detritus at The Art of Listening, Brighton 2007, fellow sound artist Joseph Young asked Harry to become a member of The Neo Futurist Collective. As a member of the Neo Futurists Harry collaborated with artist Mikhail Karikis upon a project entitled “Re awakening of a city”, funded by the arts council. This particular leg of the project culminated in a performance at the Sonic Arts Network Expo, Brighton 2008 as shown in the above video excerpt.
